Let’s picture it, you have put a heating system in and filled it up cold, you fire up the boiler and the system is getting hot with rising pressure and temperature, a fitting starts leaking, The time it takes to drain the system down, is enough time to cause damage to the customer’s home, you put a bowl under the pipe to catch the water only to find you can’t get it out again, it’s messy and worrying and the last thing one wants is an insurance claim, or to reduce your bill because of damage caused by the leak.
Leak Mate is a unique reusable tool that will stop leaks in seconds allowing time to safely drain the system. The tool is supplied with reusable 10mm, 15mm & 22mm seals that have a recessed step moulded in every seal to fit copper fittings. Leak Mate also seals split pipes and holed pipes whether plastic or copper. The product has been field tested by a plumbing company over the last 2 yrs.
Leak Mate has undergone various tests by an independent testing company and although the manufacturer recommends its use for pressures up to 10 bar it has passed tests at 20 bars on nailed and split pipes.

Leak Mate is an essential tool for all Tradesmen and homeowners as a temporary fix allowing minimum disruption. The Leak will need to be fixed at a more convenient time by a qualified plumber. There is no comparable product currently available in the market place. The Leak Mate Tool provides a quick easy solution to a variety of sizes of leaking pipe and fittings and the tool is re-usable time and time again.
Other products on the market include:
- Pipe Clamps ~ these are metal clamps which fit either side of the pipe and are bolted together using nuts and bolts. This is a time consuming process and is extremely fiddly to fit. The longer the process to fit, the more water is escaping and causing damage to the surrounding areas.
- Freeze sprays ~ the damaged pipes are sprayed with a specialist spray which creates an ice plug in the pipe within about 10 minutes and lasts for up to 30 minutes. Obviously the spray is not re-usable and considerable damage can be done to the surrounding area in the 10 minutes required to freeze the pipes. If the repair cannot be actioned within the 30 minutes, the water will again start leaking. Freezing pipes can also cause problems with expansion of pipes resulting in problems fitting new fittings or re-jointing following repairs. It is difficult to freeze the pipes if water is running through them at the time; this is not a problem for the Leak Mate tool.
- Epoxy Putty ~ this is not a WRAS approved product for use with domestic drinking water pipes. It is also ineffective where these is water pressure in the pipeline and also is not re-usable. The pipes need to be cleaned prior to application and it can take some time for the product to set to prevent the leak.
- Fusion tape / amalgamation tape ~ space is required around the pipe in order to pass the tape around the pipe work. It is difficult to fit correctly and is very time consuming. More often it is the case that the leak starts to seep through the tape and the product is not re-usable.
When compared to the above, the Leak Mate Tool is inexpensive, quick and easy to use and is fully re-usable. When using the Leak Mate tool it is possible to fit it without physically touching the pipe, this is extremely useful if working on hot water pipes or if there is an electrical charge running down the pipe for any reason.
No other tools are required in order to fit the Leak Mate tool to the leaking pipe or fitting.
