Leaky pipes and fittings are the bane of every plumber’s working day. Whether the leak is a slow, steady drip or a sudden pressurised stream, it can cause major damage to a customer’s home in the time it takes to drain the system.
Of particular dread are the times when the leak begins while other work is being carried out on the system – damage caused then often results in a customer claiming against the plumber’s insurance, or the plumber having to reduce their bill because of water damage.
New to the UK market, Leak Mate is a reusable tool that plumbers can use to stop leaks in seconds, acting as a temporary fix that then allows them to safely drain the system at a convenient time without having to worry about further water damage being done in the meantime.
This also means that if a plumber is called out to an emergency leak late in the evening, they can fit the LeakMate quickly and then leave the system overnight, or even for several days, until a regular appointment can be made.
Compared to some other fixing methods such as fusion tape, freeze sprays and epoxy putty, the company claims LeakMate is easy to use and inexpensive. The tool can also be fitted without physically touching the pipe, which is particularly useful when working with hot water pipes, or if there is an electrical charge running down the pipe for any reason.
The tool is supplied with reusable 10mm, 15mm and 22mm seals that have a recessed step moulded in to fit copper fittings. Leak Mate also seals split and holed pipes, whether copper or plastic, up to 10 bar.
